CHAIN TREE IN WAYANAD (A SHORT DOCUMENTARY)

Wayanad is a district of love and greenery situated in Kerala. The road  is connected to Thamarassery , which  is also called churam was haunted by a wandering soul  who was a noble tribesman named Karithandan. It is believed that he was the person who find the way to wayanad during the period of British .

 Karithandan  was a tribesman who lived between 1700-1750 AD. During that time British was planning to fight against Tippu Sultan who was in Mysore   but there was no route to enter wayanad. They tried with many engineers but they were not able to find the route . British heard about Karithandan and how talented  he is, they also offer money to the person who shows the route. Karithandan agreed to show them but instead of that he only ask not to trouble his person.

Karithandan leads the way to british by sending animals who able to understand the way . He also help them by clearing the route with his knife. After reaching the destiny British members killed him by saying that you will show this route to other members .
 The soul of Karithandan started to haunting the people who travel through that way . many people got hurt, they says that they saw a man with knife and chain his hand trying to attack them .After doing many poojas the haunting stopped . The soul of the tribesman is now in a fiscus  tree and tied with chain. As the tree grows the chain also grows, which is now known as Chain Tree of Wayanad. A small temple is built near the tree and they started to worship Karithandan. Paniya people comes together and conducts padayathra from  Adivaram to Lakkidi and offers flower at chain tree every year on 2 nd Sunday of march. Now it is a tourist spot also where many members come and see.
